FOR THE GOOD PURPOSE • Rescue street dogs / Cloud7's charity collection
Pets, especially dogs, are very popular in Germany. There are more than 8.8 million dog owners here. Around 1.3 million Germans even keep two dogs. This makes the four-legged friends the second most popular pets after cats. We too grew up with dogs and are true dog lovers. Alina is now a dog mom herself and lives in Berlin with her boyfriend and little dog Ginger. Perhaps you know it: if you grew up with dogs, it is difficult to imagine being without forever. Unfortunately, not all dogs are lucky enough to grow up well looked after and cared for. An estimated 80,000 dogs end up in German animal shelters each year. Therefore, before each dog purchase, it should be considered to give these dogs a chance at home.
Street dogs and crowded animal shelters
The media report again and again about animal shelters, which have to impose admission stops due to financial need and lack of space, because they do not do justice to the flood of released animals. At the same time, dogs continue to be bred, although there is already a large overpopulation.
While abandoned dogs are brought to animal shelters in Germany, there are many street dogs in southern or eastern European countries. Often there are so many that cities and municipalities intervene. In many countries, free-range animals are caught and killed or housed in overcrowded animal shelters. Many street dogs face an unworthy life here and outside, often being mistreated or poisoned.
Gingi Powers - A Greek street dog
Ginger and Alina
So it was clear to Alina that she would adopt a dog from the street instead of buying from a breed. Alina was inspired in her dog search by the work that animal protection associations such as Everyday stray, Animals in Need Greece and dog rescue Europe do. Her Greek dog Ginger found her in Greece through animals in need and immediately fell in love. Ginger is a wild half-breed, probably containing Greek coconi, spitz and terrier. She was brought to Alina from Greece at the age of 5 months and is now a lovable, easy-care, cheeky city dog. You can follow the story of Ginger and Alina on their new dog blog and on Instagram.

Robert Altermoser in cooperation with Cloud7
Robert Altermoser
The enthusiasm was all the greater when we learned about the new cooperation between Robert Altermoser and Cloud7. Robert founded EVERYDAYSTRAY. He has worked as a photographer for various organizations in Romania, Bulgaria and Greece and found that the shelters across Eastern Europe are hopelessly overcrowded. Which makes it impossible to look after over 100 dogs a day and at the same time look for a suitable home for them.
So that more and more unintentional offspring do not continue to face a sad life, the organization EVERYDAYSTRAY has set itself the goal, in addition to feeding, cleaning, deworming and teaching dogs, to neuter as many dogs as possible. You can access the EVERYDAYSTRAY website here.
