CRUELTY-FREE • vegan cosmetics

Cosmetics for a clear conscience: Where the definition of vegan starts and the definition of cruelty-free ends, we explain in this article. We also introduce you to some well-tolerated, vegan and non-animal-tested products. Because the demand of vegan cosmetics is constantly increasing for ethical and moral reasons. Also more and more non-vegans want to use cosmetics that are based on animal-free production and herbal ingredients.

In one of our posts last week Alina already made her statement on this topic. If you are also looking for vegan alternatives to conventional cosmetic products, we have a few suggestions for you here:

“Two years without milk and two months without meat.” 🐄 In addition @alinastnn completely renounces all cosmetics and cleaning agents that have been tested on animals. “It’s the little things that make the big difference in the end. The little things that help the environment and the climate and in the end, ourselves.”

Vegan vs. cruelty-free cosmetics

Vegan Cosmetics

Vegan cosmetic products are free from animal ingredients and manufacturers reject animal testing on principle.

cruelty-free cosmetics

cruelty-free cosmetics may contain ingredients of animal origin such as beeswax, honey and milk. The products can therefore be vegan, but do not have to be.

Certified: Labels for cosmetics free of animal testing

These cruelty-free labels show you clearly for which beauty products no animal had to suffer:

The Vegan Flower:
The label of the Vegan Society with the sunflower identifies products whose ingredients are both animal-free and vegan. The vegan flower is the most popular label for cosmetic products. It is the only label that stands for both vegan and non-animal-tested cosmetics.

Leaping Bunny: A label with international validity. It is subject to the Human Cosmetic Standards (HCS). Companies hereby undertake not to perform or commission any animal testing. In addition, they may not have any connection to companies that carry out such tests. The products must also be free of animal content.

IHTK: The label of the German Animal Welfare Association and International Manufacturers' Association for Animal-Protected Natural Cosmetics. Producers are not allowed to carry out or commission animal testing or to be in contact with corresponding companies.

Crueltyfree and vegan: The label of the animal rights organisation Peta. It labels vegan products, animal testing is taboo. Online there is a list with the corresponding brands and companies.

Controlled Natural Cosmetics (BDIH): The label for products whose manufacture, development or testing has not involved animal testing.

Vegan cosmetics brands

Lumene

Lumene skin care formulas are 100% vegan and free from animal testing. Some Lumene formulas contain 100% natural ingredients. Hand-selected Nordic botanicals nourish the skin. Berries, seeds, plants, tree sap and mushrooms have developed in Finland in the wild over thousands of years. This is the origin of Lumenes skin care products. Arctic plants are exposed to an annual light cycle of 8 months of darkness followed by continuous summer light - this cycle gives the plants a special antioxidant power.

Weleda

Weleda was already part of the beauty repertoire of our grandparents. Since 1921, the products for the well-being of body and soul have been in harmony with nature. The German cosmetics manufacturer has not only set itself the goal of supporting beauty and physical well-being, but also works in harmony with the environment. The results are natural cosmetic, vegan cosmetic products without animal testing and microplastics.
